because SUP is for Source UPdates....

as Todd said, just use FTP (which is probably faster anyway) to grab a
static source tarball.

why would you want a static release when you could get the latest patches,
anyway?  pullups to the release branches are strictly monitored, so you
should always be getting "better" code on the release branch than you
would sticking with the original release...
