I submitted a PR about this a while ago, but it hasn't been acted
upon yet. Having just been bitten by it again I thought I'd mention
it once more: There is a feature in rc.d/xfs that can cause problems
starting the X font server, namely that it has a "REQUIRE: mountall"
rather than a "REQUIRE: cleartmp". With the former xfs can be started
at a time before /tmp is cleared; this is unfortunate as it creates
a font-server socket in /tmp. If the X server then comes along expecting
to find a font-server socket it wont and, if there are no other alternative
sources for fonts available to the server, it will not start.
Please can we have the "REQUIRE: mountall" changed to "REQUIRE: cleartmp"
in rc.d/xfs by default.
