I have current as of yesterday or this morning and it is
now unable to recompile itself.

Stop.

The above seems to happen to everything the compiler does
when trying to compile the kernel. Is there an easy fix?
I should have a useable system /altroot from a day or two ago
but I don't know what broke yet, so...
