"You get what you pay for".  The Lucent cards do a fair amount of the
802.11 protocol (especially the roaming part) internally.  It's my
understanding that the cheaper cards don't (and that stuff has to be
implemented in the driver, and that's where different interpretations
of the 802.11 spec come into play ...)
