Thanks for all the comments.

The case I'm interested in is a machine down in the lab.  I can walk 
down down there use the console (VT100) if necessary.  There is nothing 
on the disk that I can't reconstruct reasonably easily. 

I assume/hope from the lack of any other comments that there aren't 
any magic steps that will surprise me.  I'll probably give it a try 
when I get a chance.
