I get same exact behaviour with both alpha and i386.  I'm still
waiting for my mac68k to finish building...  :)

BTW, it doesn't matter if the request is made to the local server, or 
to a remote server.  And it fails i386-client to i386-target, i386-
client to alpha-target, and alpha-client to i386-target.  I can't
check alpha-client to alpha-target cuz I only got one alpha!
