Nope, SUSv2 says tgetstr returns a "char *" and that "**area" is allowed
to be NULL as is (*area).  Besides just about _all_ the code we have
in the tree uses the string returned by tgetstr.  I am starting to
wonder why they pass in a non-NULL area pointer at all come to think
of it.
