Hm.  Matt Thomas reported some oddity to me as well.  But it apparently
has mysteriously gone away.  I have not neen able to reproduce it
myself.

What exact procedure did you follow to update your system, and what
are the RCS tags at the tops of the files in arch/alpha/alpha?
