Interesting.  So, how much data is on that CD, 23MB, or about 5-6?  I've had
the failure on:

NetBSD gandalf.plethora.net 1.4Y NetBSD 1.4Y (GANDALF) #0: Fri May 19 16:52:52
CDT 2000 seebs@gandalf.plethora.net:/scratch/src/sys/arch/alpha/compile/GANDALF alpha

and on a 1.4.2 machine.
