Also, scattering "sync" into a couple places in bsd.lib.mk also eliminates
the symptoms!

P.S.: I see no bit-rot; comparing selected files built on a couple passes
      through this part of "make build" show that the truncation error
is the only evident corruption.  (Hope that holds true...)
