I remember moving up from my old Osborne 1 Portable with its 64K of RAM
to a Mac SE. I was amazed at the sheer volume of code involved with
pulling down a menu, and I was equally amazed that it didn't bring the
system to its knees.

And to think, now I use X every day without a second thought... <grin>
