The new driver compiles now on sparc, but this happens on my SLC:

Sonne:~ +cat sound.au > /dev/audio
(short knuckle sound)
Watchdog reset
Data Access ExceptionType b (boot), c (continue), or n (new command mode)

I.e. no panic, it jumps directly into the boot console.
