Hmm, just tried :

  ftp ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/incoming/blymn/edit.tar.gz

and it didn't work. Amongst the other output is :

230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply.
  binary
  200 Type set to I.
  passive on
Passive mode: on; fallback to active mode: off.
  prompt off
  Interactive mode off.
  cd pub/NetBSD

(because I have a .netrc entry for ftp.netbsd.org), and finally :

550 pub: No such file or directory.

So, should the URL always be of the form :

  ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/%2Fpub/incoming/blymn/edit.tar.gz

(which works), or should ftp ignore ~/.netrc for URL fetches?

J

PS. Sources from approx Feb 04, but I don't see any significant change since.
