I have been too chicken to actually beat up my flash and use it as a
read/write disk.  I tend to only do a single "cp -rp /l/smartmedia
/home/pictures" per pcmcia adaptor insertion.

The hang only happens when I initially plug the PCMCIA adaptor in.  A
45sec full-hang on plug-in mostly takes the fun out of using a device.
