I fixed a bug in the new curses code ``some time last year'' that caused
this problem. I can't check cvs at the moment, but it should be easy to
pick. I'd suggest getting a more current libcurses.

I debugged the problem on a 500MHz Alpha - it was _very_ noticable there :-)
