Okay, I looked at the log message for that and now I understand what's going
on here.

Thanks very much for you patch!  I've committed it (slightly modified; it
tries the new one only if the old one failed).

I think I have the data sheet for the dp83843 PHY (isn't that the "PHYter"?),
and will work on a driver for it soon.

Hm, that reminds me that I have a pending MII issue to discuss on tech-net :-)
