Exactly: it has a "master" side and a "slave" side; the latter looks
just like a tape drive to software. The protocol spoken between the
master side and the userland daemon is not quite trivial, but not
really complicated. I'll be happy to send the code (including the one
userland daemon I've written) and/or the manpages to anyone who asks
for a copy.
