It does look cool!  I haven't tried to compile it, but the Linux binary
runs on my system and gives me the same kind of recording that xwave
does.

audiorecord(1) seems to give me the same results as a cat < /dev/audio.

Uncompressed audio streams are memory hogs.  ;-)
