To my knowlege, ld.so.conf doesn't do anything on an ELF system. That'd be
a last fallback if you've got the aout compatibility, but otherwise it
shouldn't be accessed. For similar functionality in ELF, you can use the
envar LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
