Not that I'm aware of; still get the same failure mode in every Unix I've
tried, but they work fine under Windows.

That's quite possible.  Actually, I do have an alternative:  I have a Psion
Series 5 palmtop, and it can read the flash cards, and it can send things to
NetBSD via serial port.
