The driver is changed after 1.4.
Note that the main source of the epic driver is smc83c170* in
sys/dev/ic. And the changes in rev 1.17 of smc83c170.c is probably
the fix for that timeout bug and it's post 1.4, since the base of 1.4
branch is 1.15.
