I do a disk-to-disk dump every night (it beats screwing around with tapes,
hands-down), and I get these transfer rates:

DUMP: Average transfer rate: 1485 KB/s
DUMP: Average transfer rate: 1130 KB/s
DUMP: Average transfer rate: 820 KB/s
DUMP: Average transfer rate: 987 KB/s
2105212928 bytes transferred in 306 secs (6879780 bytes/sec)
1952120832 bytes transferred in 285 secs (6849546 bytes/sec)
15204352 bytes transferred in 3 secs (5068117 bytes/sec)
11534336 bytes transferred in 2 secs (5767168 bytes/sec)

The /backups filesystem is a 64k block/8k frag on an 18GB disk on a
separate Fast SCSI-2 controller/bus from the main system disks. The second
set of numbers are from a "dd" readback of the backup files to check for
disk I/O errors.
