I've got a machine (i386) running a -current kernel from tarballs I
grabbed last Friday. When I try to mount a big /tmp, it panics.

If I try "mount_mfs -s 1000000 /dev/sd3b /tmp", it works. But if I
try 1656400 (the actual size of sd3b) instead, it dies. For some
intermediate set of sizes, it will work if I first mount and then
unmount an MFS of size 1000000.

I'm willing to help somebody debug this, but I don't claim to know
anything about the guts of VM.
