If you're going to do it, minus well do it the BSD way with make. :)
cd /etc/rc
make ppp-on
make ppp-off
make X-on
make X-off
make single-user
make multi-user
etc...
and you could do parallel makes on multi-cpu machines. :) The whole
concept of runlevels is silly, methinks...
