I'm also interested in this question - at about the same time as Kwame sent
this note, I got access to a Dell Powerserver (for this week) which has such a
chip. The web page says:

            Note: the AIC-7890 is not yet supported.

with "not" in bold - is this because of some problem with the chip (32 bit vs
16 bit or something), or is it worth tinkering with src/sys/dev/pci/ahc_pci.c
hoping it might be similar to something else?

(Luckily it also has an aic-7860 and is therefore running NetBSD :-)
