Dustin, I wouldn't paint all of GNU software with the same brush as
the GNUcash stuff.   GNUcash makes Emacs look like a piker in terms of
pulling in extraneous packages for no really legitimate reason.   I
think emacs should relinquish the kitchen sink logo to GNUcash.   Did
you try taking the "SHELL=/bin/bash" declaration out of
makefile.init.in?   I didn't see it, and that's why I didn't take it
out.   It's probably completely superfluous.
