Was this the need to increase NKMEMCLUSTERS beyond the default?
On my 128MB i386 system running NetBSD-current of Aug 6 vintage I
see (among other things) 3 half-MB entries for "UVM amap" in my
"vmstat -m" output, and I had a few panics with kmem_map being
full before I found out what was happening (hooked up a serial
console and subsequently reconfigured).
