Write the CLOCK TEST bit *at least 16 consecutive times* during initialization,
as the clock source will be set incorrectly otherwise! From SMC Application

...once making this change, the driver is MUCH more stable, the device
timeouts I was seeing are basically gone (I still got one of them when it
attempted to send the very first packet; still need to trace that down).
Anyhow, for those of you who were having problems, please try the driver
out after the next SUP scan, and report success or failure.
