bummer.  I was afraid of that (which is why I didn't go looking for it! ;-)

I'd still like to get as close as possible to being able to automate the
running of "make depend".  If config(8) can be taught that certain
options don't require this additional overhead and that otherwise it
should automatically do this step, then all the better.
