Our Imake.tmpl contains:
#define ArCmd ArCmdBase clq

According to src/usr.bin/ar/ar.c, line 121, the -l option is not
documented and for compatibility only.

Is the use of this option really intended?

(Apparently, you can force ar(1) to perform operation on temporary files
in the current working directory instead of the directory indicated by
$TMPDIR or /tmp with this option).
