The model of offering people money to do work has its problems, as noted.

Another setup I would like, is the following: The NetBSD Foundation is
donated money by people who are interested in NetBSD development. If
somebody says "I can write a driver for X", then TNF can take some money
out of its donated pool and provide the hardware to that person.

Sure, this is far from problemless, but..
