  A few people wrote to say that things were working for them.
I'm not sure what the exact problem was (nm? ranlib?), but I
went ahead and did a make -k install, and a make cleandir && make
build (after a reboot) went cleanly.  So one of my build programs
must have been old.  Thanks for the notes.
