Indeed! I was just bitten by it while trying to install teTeX again.
The texhash skript, which updates the ls-R database uses exactly those
> $ ls -LR ./ /dev/null
> ls: no such file or directory
> ls -LR . /dev/null works fine.
Is this bug already known? Did you send a pr on it? Else you should
consider doing so, as this bug is annoying :(
