Subject: kernel hang on boot/i386, atapi

I'm having a problem with a GENERIC kernel built after the atapi changes
were checked in. I built a fresh copy yesterday (from yesterday's sources)
and it does the same thing. The last kernel I built on it that runs is
from 7/31/97. (Yes, I waited a long time ... 1.5 hours.)

The machine is an HP Vectra XU.

It hangs just after printing the line:

   biomask 8240 netmask 8640 ttymask 86c2

Has anyone else had this problem?

Here is a dmesg from the 9/31/97 working kernel. (The new kernel also
finds the atapi CD-ROM.)
