I have ventured off for a cup of coffee and back and still no response.

In regards to your idea, I installed a second floppy drive.  It found 
fdc0, then fd0, then fd1 and then it stalls like before, just prior to
the line, 
biomask 4040 netmask 4240 ttymask 42c2

Is this worthy of being a "bug"?
