I have, but I did so for backup reasons, and from an already-running

Basically, i labelled a Jaz drive with partitions that matched
important ones on my hard drive, and just dd'd the partitions off the
hard drive to the Jaz. (doing the 'dd' was annoying. it had to be
done with a relatively small block size, ~16k, or the Jaz drive would
occasionally croak with a weird, unrecognized SCSI error.)

The result was bootable, etc.

I'd give you more details (e.g. my disklabels), but unfortunately that
system is currently in the back of a truck, being moved across the
country. ("there was a reason I wanted to back it up!" 8-)
