I just thought I'd let you know that I have now seen it all.

We use several machines for our ISP which are loaded with NetBSD. I
recently updated these systems to a 'more new' version of 1.2G.

Two of the machines run great. Two of them have had the same kind of
thing happen.

Machine 1 - Reset with a supervisor page fault. After that, whenever
the system would reboot, it would spawn 'portmap' until memory filled.
On a power off/reset, the same thing would happen. Booted into single
user mode. No problem. Allowed the boot to complete, everything was
fine again. Machine has been up for three days straight now.

Machine 2 - Started spawning 'ftpd -l' until the load average climbed
above 8. I logged in and deleted all but the one that was actually in
use and the system returned to normal.

I would have ascribed it to Gremlins if it hadn't happened on two
consecutive days and with two different machines.

I went back to the SDMF and built new kernels for both machines from a
clean source tree - we'll see if that helps.

Any suggestions on the source of this disconcerting chain of events?
