"jehova.owl.de" has 3 permanent PPP connections (leased lines) and
serves as mail relay (3000-4000 mails a day), WWW proxy server
(8000-10000 accesses a day) and DNS server. I think you can say it has
lots of network load, too.

"colwyn.owl.de" has a 3c509, too, and both systems use PPP. So it's
probably not an interface driver problem.
