I installed my new system with -current.
(I wound up getting a Symbios Ultra+Wide controller, so I needed
- -current. More expensive that I wanted, but I think it is worth
it. I'm still waiting for the ultra+wide drive. I installed on a old
639mb SCSI1 5.25" monster)
Perry: I did use the ssto-12C-970314b.fs image to install
with. Worked fine, except that I needed to ftp a kernel...
I noticed that -current had ep* at isapnp0, so I enabled PNP on the
3c509B. (Bought this last Nov, in case this matters)
I got:
Mar 31 13:40:24 istari /netbsd: ep0 at isa0 port 0x280-0x28f irq 5: 3Com 3C509 E
thernet

Mar 31 13:40:26 istari /netbsd: ep1: 8KB byte-wide FIFO, 1:1 Rx:Tx split, MAC ad
dress 00:60:97:14:da:1d
I configured ep1 manually, and all seemed well... except that irq 3
was already taken! I then rebooted, checked out the bios, made sure
that com2 was enabled, and not "auto"
I then got:
Apr 1 02:57:41 istari /netbsd: ep0 at isa0 port 0x280-0x28f irq 5: 3Com 3C509 E
thernet
Apr 1 02:57:41 istari /netbsd: ep0: 8KB byte-wide FIFO, 1:1 Rx:Tx split, MAC ad
dress 00:60:97:14:da:1d
i.e. no Plug and Play
This morning I had some problems (unknown, syslogd was in state D,
and wouldn't die or do any logging), I rebooted and got:
Apr 1 02:53:31 istari /netbsd: ep0 at isa0 port 0x280-0x28f irq 5: 3Com 3C509 E

I disabled pnp and am happy.
I thought that I should report this experience.
[it sure would be nice to have a utility to set the cmos time from
inside Unix...]
