Mostly buffer cache?  Plus any other little bits of memory the kernel
needed to grab while booting?

I have my machine set to 15% buffer cache.  This is what I see:

NetBSD 1.2 (MINDBENDER) #403: Thu Nov  7 23:58:48 PST 1996
CPU: Pentium (GenuineIntel 586-class CPU)
real mem  = 66715648
avail mem = 53440512
using 2430 buffers containing 9953280 bytes of memory
