current-users: configuring devices at runtime

Hi,
is there any hope that netbsd will be able to configure devices
at runtime (like cfgmgr for AIX e.g.) in the near future? 
Are there many changes neccessary to be able to do it?
I think it is a nice feature to be able to switch on a tape
when i really need it..

Will the ext2fs drivers of freebsd,openbsd integrated in netbsd soon?
It would make things much simpler for me..
