Perhaps we should try to find ways to make more adaptive kernels;
for instance, the ability to dynamically *unload* unused drivers.
(For instance, once I've successfully booted, I should be able
to unload every SCSI card driver I'm not using.)

That would reduce the cost of using GENERIC kernels, no? :)
