this is something I recognise. Whenever our web cache machine begins
to swap it'll stop responding to anything (and much worse than how
say SunOS 'feels' when it's swapping - merely slow).

the box already has 128MB of RAM, and the swap is split across 12
spindles to try and improve things... doesn't help much.
