I noticed something like this as well: on an aliased interface, the
source for outgoing packets would be the alias and not the real one,
when (for instance) telnetting out.

It turned out to be related to the netmask: you must also set it for the
alias, or unexpected things (like this) happen. Perhaps this will help
you as well.
