I have'nt actually tried this but the ss.c looks a lot like the one that is in 
the package pint so I assume that userland stuff from it should work.

It has www-pages at http://falcon.dol-esa.gov/%7Ekstailey/pint/ try that stuff.

And actually from that 'PINT is now standard-issue with NetBSD 1.1B...'
