Your notion of aesthetics != mine.

I want something that:
	(1) looks like other systems' version of init.d,
	(2) works,
	(3) requires no frobbing with non-standard tools.

I happen to think that the 'normal' way is quite "aesthetically
pleasing," to some degree because it's rather simple, and, once you
understand it, hard to screw up.
