Why are you using /scratch for something that's not truely scratch????
Use /mnt, or some more meaningful name, for temporary mounts.
Sorry for stating the obvious, but I don't think you can really expect
anything different. BTW, /mnt *is* documented, but /scratch isn't --
see hier(7).
