Why are we having this discussion again?  Is it to remain compatible
internally or with other's source?

In almost all of my code I define the usual uint16, uint8, uint32, and
uint64 types and use those.  I won't care in the least how long is
defined.  My code will adapt.

As for what long _should_ be, I always thought it should be the
largest ``natural'' size of the CPU.  It would be rather messy to have
long change sizes within a particular OS, but it would be nice to have
64-bit longs when they're supported.

More ramblings later, I'm trying not to study.  :)
