If the only reason to have a separate portable Intel x86 thread is APM
then I don't really see any reason for one. (PCMCIA is available and is
used on desktop machines FYI). Furthermore the code for the APM implementation
will have to cross reference that for PCMCIA, and rightfully those discussions
should take place in tech-kern.
