I tried this on the machine in question. Did not help.

The problem isn't really the interrupt servicing time of the com.c
itself... I guess it is locked out by the wd driver, depending on mode
used. The machines with little problems, as far as I can see, have SCSI
disk interfaces (which presumably do DMA transfers).
